Acute Appendicitis

In this image, you see a tubular structure in the abdomen. It was found in the right-lower-quadrant, and had a closed-end. In this 54 year old female who had presented with symptoms of right-sided lower abdominal pain, nausea, and decreased appetite, this structure was focally tender, non-compressible, and over 6mm (the upper limit of a normal appendix). The patient had a CT scan that confirmed appendicitis and she was managed surgically.
